Question #2:
What colour is this wood?
I want my architraves and skirting the same colour as the wood in this picture:Click Here
I've tried a Walnut stain, but it's too light. I've tried Rosewood stain, but it's far too red. I'm lost as to what colour it is.
My architrave and skirting are softwood (pine I think) and I understand that the wood effects the colour of the stain.
I've found a dark oak stain:
Click Here
It looks about right, but I can't be sure.
Any advice on what the colour actually is and how I can achieve it with soft wood, would be great.
I have some 'ethnic' furniture that's the correct colour, but I just can't find a stain that makes my skirting the same colour.
Thanks,
Gaz

Question #4:
Can you give me feedback on my novel?! (one page yet)?
I still remember the bold black iron bars of the gate, standing tall and towering above all beings. A cool midnight breeze brought me to my senses, and I suddenly took notice of the lad coming towards the gate. He was rather young, a junior of no more than 18, and he carried a chain of keys. The sound of a distant storm shook the earth and broke the silence. This only caused the porter to search more nervously through the keys to find the right one. The air was thick and moist, and his lantern was merely a halo in the dull grey sky, frosted with humid breath. Not a single sound was to be heard but the clinging of the rusty old keys.“Oh for god’s sake, son, get a move on...” said the loud voice of a woman coming towards us from behind. A short figure wrapped in covers, looking rather like a ball of wool, she was a woman of 40 who introduced herself as Mrs. Hamston as she pulled out a key, and pushing the boy away with her large figure, made way for herself and opened the lock, letting me in.
“Do accept my pardon, Mr. Turner! Henry was sent to us a week ago. Well, thank lord you are safe and sound. How was your journey?” said she, as she walked me along the garden towards the house. I followed her like a son following his mother, afraid of being lost in the foggy darkness.
“Glad to be settled at last, madam.” I said, looking up at the sky with inner frustration. Another roar of the clouds reminded us to keep walking in pace, and soon the icy drops of rain began to fall.
The humid atmosphere did not allow me to look around, and so I stared at my feet, and concentrated on the sound of my thick leather boots rustling on the wet pebbles. Finally, a halo of dim light caught my attention and here I lifted my head and found myself on the porch of the grand mansion; and a grand mansion it was. Its walls were tar black bricks, and the sides extended through the trees, out of sight. The stairs leading to the porch were of dark marble, paneled with wooden boards to avoid the slippery wet floor. Just then, my observations were interrupted by Mrs. Hamston, who now held the great wooden door open for me to enter.
“Come along now, Henry. Show Mr. Turner to the guestroom while I prepare the tea”; She then locked the door and walked away in her tiny steps, her skirt rustling away into the distance. As Henry went to attend to my luggage still left in the carriage, I had the instance to forget about the grandeur of the building outside, and be awed at the nevertheless luxurious interior. The floor was parquetted in rhombuses intersecting each other in different shades of rich glossy wood, covered with an antique crimson Persian carpet that ran to the foot of the grand staircase. The staircase was of rich, expensively carved oak, carpeted blood red velvet, and curved from the left side of the hall to the right, ending in a mysterious dimly lit hallway upstairs.
The door opened and a cool breeze sent me a slight shiver. Henry had my trunk and set forth, telling me with a silent look that I should follow him. I though we were headed upstairs, but instead, he led me straight ahead of the hall, and then turned towards a rather small door under the staircase. He put the trunk on the floor and started searching through his key loop again. Finally, he found the right one and turned the lock, opening the door to complete darkness. He then proceeded to an elegant table that sat outside the door next to the back door window, opened its drawer, and drew a match from a box, lighting the candle on the table. He returned to “my” room and without entering it, reached for a lantern hung on the inside wall, and lit it with the candle he had in his hand. The room was now visible with the lantern, and I stepped in, looking around. It was a large room as opposed to its tiny door, furnished with antique Victorian furniture. The floor was warmly carpeted, and there was a canopy bed on one side, a chair, a sofa, a study desk and the bathroom at the very end. There was nothing lacking, yet it felt unfamiliar to be standing among the nostalgic figures of the objects. I turned to Henry and thanked him, with the intention of asking about the electricity, but I would rather discuss that with the house keeper, and so I dismissed him. I took another look at the room, and then took off my coat and hat, and started unpacking my stuff on the bed. The closet, just like the room, was ironically spacious on the inside, whereas I thought I needed to find another place to hang the rest of my clothing. I then sat on the bed and looked around. There was much decorations and objects to see, much details to memorize. There was a painting of a lighthouse lost on the shore among the huge rocks, a painting of Scottish highlands and one of a bee farm, all aligned next to one another across the wall.

I have a cheap custom made frame that is pine. I want to move it into a room that has oak furniture and hardware. It doesn't look bad with the pine, but if there is any covering/lacquer/paint/tape that I can put on the pine to make it look oak, I think it will look nicer.Question #9:
You are my Sunshine Nursery ideas?
I am redecorating my daughters nursery. I wanted to use the theme "You are my Sunshine". Her furniture is an Oak color. I know how I am decorating the room itself, but I am stuck on the bedding. Question #10:
I want to change the color of my kitchen cabinets?
My cabinets are oak but were white washed by the previous owners in the 90s. I hate the white washed color because they get grimy and filthy and when I try to clean them it rubs off the finish. They are looking pretty gross now. I would like to have them refinished to a mahogany color.I've had three bids now. Two companies claim that they can just clean them up and put toner OVER the white wash color and gradually stain them to a mahogany. They are not going to use stripper. One company is going to do a bit of sanding and then build the color over the white wash for $3500 (which seems a bit high) but the other will just put the toner directly over the white wash with NO sanding for around $2080. I have this other guy who refinished my deck and did a nice job and I gave him one of my cabinet doors to experiment on (he's never done cabinets but has refinished lots of furniture and decks). He used stripper to get off the varnish and most of the stain, then lightly sanded to get the rest of the white wash off. Then he stained them with a mahogany color and sealed it with polyurethane. I haven't seen the finished product yet, but he says he's confident that he can do the job and make it look really nice. He's willing to charge $1800 for the job.
Which of these methods sounds the best? I just want my cabinets to look really good. I want the wood grain to show through and don't want it to look painted. I also don't want anything to peel or come off.

Question #14:
Could You help me interpret these dreams?
I've had four dreams...All of them dealing with a guy (If you don't mind, I'll refer to him as bob to make it easier.) I met and have talked to since February of this year. Sorry if this is a little long, but I'm going in detail so I won't have any confusion.Dream 1: This one dealt with Bob and I going on a date. We were walking down a sidewalk at night. The streets had a few people on them. Him and I stop at this antique shop and we began looking through the windows. There were silver kettles and plates, some wooden furniture, and china. In the far back of the shop I could see a golden curtain. He taps me on the shoulder and smiles. He then wraps his arms around me and gives me a big hug. The dream then ends when he leans in and kisses me.
Dream 2: This one is really short...Bob is carrying me in his arms into a room with oak flooring, a white bed, and a window that was at the foot of said bed.He was wearing light blue and I was wearing a long white dress.
Dream 3: Extremely short. Bob was standing there with his hands behind his back, smiling at me. He was wearing a white shirt and khaki pants.
Dream 4: This is my most recent dream....It all starts out in this open area, maybe a park. We were standing beside a lake. Behind us, in the distance was a white gazebo. There was a tall tree with green leaves standing beside the gazebo. Well, Bob and I were talking when he decides to take out his phone and dial a number. In a minute he was saying something in Spanish....He then puts the phone on speaker phone and then I hear an older woman speak. Bob then tells me that it was his mother that was speaking. She says something in Spanish and then Bob translates saying, "She says that she would love to meet you....Her new daughter-in-law"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~*
So does anyone have a clue as to what this means...If these dreams have any meaning.
Need help decorating my room!?
I'm moving soon and my parents said I can paint the walls any colour I want.. Eventually I'd get decor to match it. I need opinions on my idea, and options would help too.My idea:
My furniture is almost like a white oak, I have no clue what type of wood the floor is.
So if the floor is like my furniture then my walls would be mauve with orange and blue-grey decor.
I'm not sure...
So I need help, what else do you think would be a good idea?
Just to let you know I believe a room should resemble yourself..I guess.So,
I'm a 13 year old girl..I guess I'm an average girl..Not really girly but not a tomboy..I hope that helps xD.
Oh and if I do go wth my idea, should I make it like an indian theme =]?? I like india, it's cool. But...I'm not indian. Not like that matters.
Thanks ;D
Question #20:
I plan on redecorating my entire bedroom; but I need to know just how much the whole thing is gonna cost me.?
I plan on giving my entire room a total makeover. First, I plan on removing the carpet and replacing it with dark hardwood floors, I'm also going to remove that annoying ceiling fan and replace it with a much more suitable light. The bedroom door is going to be painted a dark walnut with leafy vines lining the edges of the door; also my closet door is gonna be painted the same color and have a veil of ivy over it. The walls are going to be painted to resemble a forest filled with pine, oak and gnarled trees; soft and wispy grass with Fields of wild flowers and a dirt path leading out to the unknown. The baseboards will have thorny vines with deep blue roses lining them. Also, the ceiling will be painted a light blue with a very faint lavender haze and misty clouds. Glow-in-the-dark stars and galaxies will give it the feeling of camping out. Besides that, I need to add in the price for the furniture.Just how much money am I looking at?
Also, where should I be looking for, to have someone help me with everything?
I forgot to mention that my room is 12 by 9 feet
Also, the room is goth meets fantasy meets native american folk lore; what can I say? I adore wolves.
