Question: Color help for a temporary situation... The carpet is BLUE?

Answer #1:

White. Yes play it safe. You can make this look quite current and rather "decorator" by simplifying and doing a white/off-white/cream pallet and showcasing the blue by picking it up in some blue ( a lighter version) and white bold patterns such as stripes and toyle on pillows and such. Then pick one or two accents. I would go with black(sparingly) to pick up your iron items I'm assuming you meant wrought iron which is black more or less. Get a couple of great black chairs. And a black wrought iron light fixture. Your raw pottery (terra cotta?) will compliment your medium oak. Also, remember that large area rugs with this combined color scheme would work miracles here. Keeping the room predominantly whites can be very forgiving.Your blue carpet might even end up looking "on purpose"! I'm not a decorator I'm a proffesional artist, but I do hope this helps.Good luck!

Answer #2:

You didn't mention your upholstery colors. If you are going to keep the same upholstery that you have, you should try to use colors that will go with it as well as with the carpet. If you are going to change your upholstery, look for fabric that has the blue and cream and another color that you like. Then you can use pillows with the accent color. I would do the walls in cream and use your fabrics, either upholstery or drapery to find your accent color.
If you don't want wood grain for the moldings, use the same color you paint the walls. If you want to stain the moldings, go with the medium oak of your furniture.

Answer #3:

Check the moulding. It may not be real wood and not worth painting. I'd leave it all alone, actually, until you choose your new flooring colour. Whatever looks good with what you have may not go with what you pick and you'll be painting twice or finding you buy window treatments twice. Medium oak with blue carpet doesn't sound so bad.
