Question: Has anyone used denatured alcohol to to refinish oak? Is there anything similar to use on polyurethane?

It hass nothing to do with the kind of wood, Oak Pine, Maple does not matter. It is the finish that matters. If you were using alcohol it was most likely Shellac. Alcohol will have little effect on Urethane finish. One of the reasons to use it.Answer #2:
The coating on your floor is designed to be extremely tough, durable and solvent resistant...Your best option is sanding. That's why the commercial guys do it that way.Answer #3:
You could try airing the floor over with a mesh screen on a buffing machine and vacuming up the dust and then applying another coat of seal.Darren Tarmey
