Question #1:

How to decorate my new room?

We recently moved to a new house and I'm planning on redoing my entire room.
The color theme I am going with is ocean blue, black, and white.
My furniture is cherry wood (Sleigh bed, Chester drawer, corner desk, and a dresser with mirror) and my floors are a dark oak.
My current bedding and curtains is/are- Click Here
All my picture frames are black.

Is this a good idea?
How should I paint the walls?
What kind of decorations should I throw in?
Oh I guess I forgot to mention that we have moved into a bigger house, and the rooms are I think 15x14 with walk in closets.

Question #2:

bedroom furniture help?

my boyfriend reckons that we could find a wardrobe for our bedroom for between £40- £60

we want a black one and 2 black bedside cabinets (small )

also is it possible tobuy say a white/ oak colour cabinet and then paint it? HELP PLEASE !

Question #3:

What colour is this wood?

I want my architraves and skirting the same colour as the wood in this picture:

I've tried a Walnut stain, but it's too light. I've tried Rosewood stain, but it's far too red. I'm lost as to what colour it is.

My architrave and skirting are softwood (pine I think) and I understand that the wood effects the colour of the stain.

I've found a dark oak stain:

It looks about right, but I can't be sure.

Any advice on what the colour actually is and how I can achieve it with soft wood, would be great.

I have some 'ethnic' furniture that's the correct colour, but I just can't find a stain that makes my skirting the same colour.

Thanks,
Gaz

Question #6:

How can I make a Pine frame look like Oak?

I have a cheap custom made frame that is pine. I want to move it into a room that has oak furniture and hardware. It doesn't look bad with the pine, but if there is any covering/lacquer/paint/tape that I can put on the pine to make it look oak, I think it will look nicer.

Question #7:

You are my Sunshine Nursery ideas?

I am redecorating my daughters nursery. I wanted to use the theme You are my Sunshine. Her furniture is an Oak color. I was thinking about painting the walls blue. Painting a large sun centering the crib with her full name in the middle. Any suggestions? What do you think about what I have so far? The bedding I am stuck on.

Question #8:

I want to change the color of my kitchen cabinets?

My cabinets are oak but were white washed by the previous owners in the 90s. I hate the white washed color because they get grimy and filthy and when I try to clean them it rubs off the finish. They are looking pretty gross now. I would like to have them refinished to a mahogany color.
I've had three bids now. Two companies claim that they can just clean them up and put toner OVER the white wash color and gradually stain them to a mahogany. They are not going to use stripper. One company is going to do a bit of sanding and then build the color over the white wash for $3500 (which seems a bit high) but the other will just put the toner directly over the white wash with NO sanding for around $2080. I have this other guy who refinished my deck and did a nice job and I gave him one of my cabinet doors to experiment on (he's never done cabinets but has refinished lots of furniture and decks). He used stripper to get off the varnish and most of the stain, then lightly sanded to get the rest of the white wash off. Then he stained them with a mahogany color and sealed it with polyurethane. I haven't seen the finished product yet, but he says he's confident that he can do the job and make it look really nice. He's willing to charge $1800 for the job.
Which of these methods sounds the best? I just want my cabinets to look really good. I want the wood grain to show through and don't want it to look painted. I also don't want anything to peel or come off.

Question #9:

how do i get paint scratches off wood furniture?

Question #11:

how can I redecorate my room(antique furniture) with a small budget?

I really want to redecorate my room and am good at interior design but I'm getting my sisters old pine furniture with my antique oak(big no-no). I was thinking of painting everything a nice, neutral white, but that was vetoed right away. I'll be moving into my new house in about a month, so I need help FAST!!!!!!!

Question #12:

Need help decorating my room!?

I'm moving soon and my parents said I can paint the walls any colour I want.. Eventually I'd get decor to match it. I need opinions on my idea, and options would help too.

My idea:
My furniture is almost like a white oak, I have no clue what type of wood the floor is.
So if the floor is like my furniture then my walls would be mauve with orange and blue-grey decor.

I'm not sure...

So I need help, what else do you think would be a good idea?

Just to let you know I believe a room should resemble yourself..I guess. So,
I'm a 13 year old girl..I guess I'm an average girl..Not really girly but not a tomboy..I hope that helps xD.

Oh and if I do go wth my idea, should I make it like an indian theme =]?? I like india, it's cool. But...I'm not indian. Not like that matters.

Thanks ;D

Question #13:

I plan on redecorating my entire bedroom; but I need to know just how much the whole thing is gonna cost me.?

I plan on giving my entire room a total makeover. First, I plan on removing the carpet and replacing it with dark hardwood floors, I'm also going to remove that annoying ceiling fan and replace it with a much more suitable light. The bedroom door is going to be painted a dark walnut with leafy vines lining the edges of the door; also my closet door is gonna be painted the same color and have a veil of ivy over it. The walls are going to be painted to resemble a forest filled with pine, oak and gnarled trees; soft and wispy grass with Fields of wild flowers and a dirt path leading out to the unknown. The baseboards will have thorny vines with deep blue roses lining them. Also, the ceiling will be painted a light blue with a very faint lavender haze and misty clouds. Glow-in-the-dark stars and galaxies will give it the feeling of camping out. Besides that, I need to add in the price for the furniture.

Just how much money am I looking at?

Also, where should I be looking for, to have someone help me with everything?
I forgot to mention that my room is 12 by 9 feet
Also, the room is goth meets fantasy meets native american folk lore; what can I say? I adore wolves.

Any ideas on how to decorate and paint her nursery? What colours, designs and accessories?

I want to redecorate on a budget?

I have a pretty small room, so I want to maximize space. I'm also 13, so I want it to be cool and I want it to be like the 'ultimate hangout.' I want to shy away from too many dark colors. We're renting this house so I can't paint the walls and they're white. I have hardwood oak floors.

Could you include links for bedspreads, furniture, pillows, rugs, etc. Not just a genral site thanks!

P.S what are some cool ideas a can do for wall art?

Thanks,
Julie

Question #19:

How to paint finished wood without sanding?

I don't have much time or patience for sanding down huge furniture. So is there anyway to paint finished wood w/out the sanding/buffing? I actually want to paint it black and its now oak colored wood. I also need to stain another peice of furniture mahogany or dark cherry wood and its also has an oak finish stain. However, both furniture peices are old and the gloss is almost completely gone anyway. Please let me know whats the best way to go w/out having to sand/buff any of the furniture for painting and for staining. Thanks for your time. :)
First of all to "professional remodler" you don't seem so professional at all. You lack education in the way you speak. You do not know my life to judge me. FYI, I have four kids and a full time job. That doesn't mean I can afford to hire someone either. So Please "Professional Person", my advice to you is, "act professional" and only judge youreself before judging others especially if you don't even know them. To all the other wonderful people that took the time to give advice, thank you very much. I appreciate it.

Question #20:

i need help decorating a farmhouse!?

i'm moving to a house that was built in 1850 and then added onto a few times, I've looked all over for ideas and can't find anything that seems to fit correctly. i like the liberty of london from target and the simply shabby chic by target, all though i can't find the liberty of london in stores anymore and they don't have bath accessories and not enough bedroom choices, and i feel that the shabby chic would be to dull for me.

any who i need help with this i'm out of ideas. i want bright happy colors but i want them to be similar to what they would have used in the 1850s.

2 full and 2 1/2 baths
one bedroom with 2 sets bunk beds for 13yr old and 15yr old girls with a 1/2 bath
1 bedroom for 2 girls age 2 and 3 i have farm bedding for the crib that i LOVE
library white book shelves and a black leather loveseat and chair
kitchen wood walls, wood cabinets, butcher block with random bar stools (plan to paint them to add color)
dining room 2 corner cabinets, light oak table and chairs
mudroom with full bathroom, all wood walls, etc
under steps play area, tile floor and wood walls
master bedroom, darker furniture with beige/brown bedding
